Family Channel to air Sailor Moon Crystal this month

WildBrain’s Family channel will start airing Toei Animation’s Sailor Moon Crystal anime series this month. The show will begin on the cable network starting November 11th at 7:30PM with an encore following at 1:30AM. Episodes are scheduled to air Mondays through Thursdays. The show will run alongside Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. On Saturdays and Sundays, one episode will air each day at 11:30PM.

Crystal is a more manga faithful adaptation of Naoki Takeuchi’s 1991 to 1997 Sailor Moon manga series. The second animated adaptation aired over three seasons and 39 episodes between 2014 and 2017. It was followed by two movie duologies in 2021 and 2023. This marks the show’s debut on Canadian linear television, as well as the first anime acquisition aired on the main Family channel under WildBrain’s ownership.

Viz Media acquired the rights to the show and Toei’s original Sailor Moon adaptation in 2014. Crystal’s Japanese version was simultaneously streamed online on NicoNico and later, Crunchyroll. The English dub, produced in Los Angeles by Studiopolis, debuted exclusively on Hulu in the United States in 2015 before later seeing a home video release. Both the dubbed and subbed versions of the show, alongside the movies, can be seen on Netflix in Canada. The Japanese version of the show is available on Crunchyroll, Pluto TV and Tubi.

The first four seasons of the original Sailor Moon anime aired on YTV in Canada between August 28, 1995, and April 8, 2002. The run also encompassed the franchise’s three theatrical films. Sailor Moon was removed from the channel in January 2004, which coincided with the show’s temporary removal from international distribution. The show also saw incomplete runs on Global, with French broadcasts on TVA. The original Sailor Moon series can currently be streamed in its subtitled format on Pluto TV and Tubi in Canada. Viz’s uncut English dub was previously available on Crave, but was removed in September 2023.

All times listed in Eastern.
