CBC’s French language streaming service ICI Tou.TV added Goldorak U to its paid Extra-tier. A press release from the company announced a January 28th launch, but the episode uploads on the site itself state it was added on February 18th. Known as Grendizer U, the 13-episode series originally debuted in Japan last July. The show is a reboot of Go Nagai’s 1975-1977 UFO Robo Grendizer anime series.
Goldorak U is available on ICI Tou.TV with a French dub produced by Dubbing Brothers in France. Notably, this appears to be that dub’s debut. It also marks the first proper availability for the series anywhere in North America. The show was simulcast internationally by the Saudi Arabian service Shahid, but subtitles were limited to Arabic. ICI acquired the series from European distributor Mediawan.
Goldorak U was directed by Shun Kudō at GAINA. Mitsuo Fukuda acted as the chief director, with Go Nagai credited as an executive producer. Tatsuto Higuchi wrote the script with Kōhei Tanaka composing the score.
The original UFO Robo Grendizer series, known as Goldorak, debuted in Quebec on TVA on September 9, 1978. The 74-episode Toei series most recently appeared on Canadian television through Télétoon Rétro in 2013. Local home video distributor Imavision released the series on DVD the year prior.
Thanks Jesse.
