Lazarus to air simultaneously on Adult Swim Canada

Corus Entertainment’s Canadian Adult Swim linear channel will air Lazarus simultaneously with its run in the United States. Shinichirō Watanabe’s latest 13-episode anime original debuts at 12AM on April 5th (effectively, the 6th). Unlike other recent Adult Swim originals, Lazarus will initially air in English. Those should also be available to stream on GlobalTV.com and StackTV. In the U.S., episodes in Japanese with English subtitles are set to be released 30 days after the dub’s premiere.

The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes. Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon. As a response to this threat, a special task force of five agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner’s plan. This group is called “Lazarus.”

A co-production between Adult Swim, MAPPA and Sola Entertainment, Lazarus is set to debut on Japanese television on April 6th. Watanabe created and directed the show, with music by Bonobo, Floating Points and Kamasi Washington. John Wick’s Chad Stahelski assisted in directing action sequences.

Lazarus joins Blade Runner: Black LotusHousing Complex C, FLCL Grunge/Shoegaze, Rick & Morty: The Anime and Uzumaki as anime co-productions Adult Swim Canada has aired alongside their U.S. debuts. Fena: Pirate Princess and Shenmue: The Animation were not included in the channel’s content output agreement and subsequently did not air. The only announced upcoming Adult Swim original anime series is Rooster Fighter.

Lazarus will air alongside reruns of recent DC Comics adult animated series like Harley Quinn, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! and Creature Commandos.
