The World Nobles laid out the rules for the Native Hunting Competition. There were 150 “Rare Rabbits” and 13 “Super Rare” ones worth 10,000 points each. A one-shot kill got you a bonus, and the winner would get luxury prizes. Some World Nobles tried to start early but were stopped—the hunt wouldn’t begin for another hour, giving the targets time to run and hide. Some were running for their lives, hoping it was all a nightmare, while others shouted that using humans as toys was wrong.
Elsewhere, Kong called Garp, who was on vacation. He wanted Garp to head to Hachinosu but didn’t say why—just hinted he’d be in trouble if something went wrong. Garp guessed it had to do with the World Nobles’ “field trip” and reminded Kong not to mess with Hachinosu or underestimate the Rocks Pirates. When Garp asked what Kong was so afraid of if he had escorts, Kong mentioned Roger. That changed everything—Garp agreed to go right away. But it was already too late. The Rocks Pirates had left Hachinosu.
Win the Devil Fruits to escape
While the competition was going on at God Valley, Ivankov started rallying people. He told them straight up: no one was making it out alive, and when it was over, the whole thing would be buried in history. Some still believed they’d go free if they survived the three weeks, but Ivankov shut that down—said it was just a lie to keep the game interesting. If they wanted to live, they had to move now.
With help from a shark fish-man, Ivankov got out of his chains. Ginny told everyone that two of the competition’s prizes—the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu and the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi—were their ticket out. Ivankov agreed, saying they could use the fruits to escape the island and break through the Marine blockade. The problem? The fruits were dead center on the island. Ginny stepped in, saying she had already leaked all this info two weeks ago—she was a pro at stealing, wiretapping, and broadcasting—so someone out there definitely heard it. They needed a decoy, and Kuma volunteered. He said he could take it thanks to his body, and he’d rather risk himself than anyone else. Ivankov agreed but promised he wouldn’t let Kuma die either.
The Rocks Pirates attack
Meanwhile, the Rocks Pirates and a bunch of other crews launched a surprise attack on the Marines. Rocks told his crew to grab the treasure, and big names like Whitebeard, Shiki, Stussy, Big Mom, Kaidou, and Gloriosa stormed the island. Not long after, Roger’s crew showed up too. The God’s Knights tried to protect the World Nobles, but Garp and his forces arrived, and it all turned into an all-out war.
During the fight, Ivankov and Kuma managed to grab two Devil Fruits. Ivankov was about to eat the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, but Linlin slammed him into a wall and took it. She went for the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi next, but Ivankov told Kuma to eat it and save himself. As soon as Kuma did, he was attacked by Jaygarcia Saturn. Saturn told him that as a Buccaneer, he was born to live and die as a slave. But Kuma stood his ground and said it made no sense for people to be born important or as slaves. He said he’d follow in Nika’s footsteps and use his power to protect the weak. Saturn replied that this was exactly why Kuma and his people had to be wiped out. After that, the events of God Valley disappeared from history.
The Hands of Liberation
Even with all the chaos, Kuma, Ivankov, and Ginny escaped with over 500 others. They went into hiding in the Sorbet Kingdom and stayed at the old church Kuma’s parents used to run. Ivankov realized the only thing the public knew about God Valley was Garp’s now-legendary story. Kuma spent some time praying, saying he wished he could’ve saved more lives, but Ivankov and Ginny told him he had already done enough. They said his hands had brought freedom — calling them the “Hands of Liberation.”
Ivankov decides to go off on his own, leaving Kuma and Ginny behind in Sorbet. The three part ways with hopes of seeing each other again. Ginny tells Kuma she’ll be his big sister now since she’s older. They start chopping and selling wood to make some money. When a group of kids call Kuma a monster because of his size, Ginny beats them up to defend him. Kuma apologizes and uses his powers to take away their pain, which actually makes the kids happy.
Later that night, Kuma and Ginny eat dinner together. Kuma’s surprised by how much Ginny can eat. Then, out of nowhere, they both start crying—just overwhelmed with how happy and free they finally feel.
Opinion: The World Nobles have always been cartoonishly evil but as they the more we see of them the worst they get. The Nobles killing the civilians for sport is horrible but they make it worst when they manipulate them by giving them false hope. They tell the civilians that “they get to be freed if they manage to survive”, Ivankov says this is a lie.
This episode explains why the incident at God Valley, when the Roger Pirates, the Marines, and Rocks Pirates clashed. Specifically, Garp and Roger teamed up to defeat Rocks D. Xebec. We also see how Kuma got his Devil Fruit, Nikyu Nikyu no Mi. Ginny, Kuma, and Ivankov manage to escape while the Marines and Pirate fight. They managed to free 500 slaves and civilians, beginning their journey as revolutionaries.
