Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 3rd Season Episode 15 – AngryAnimeBitches Anime Blog

So it seems like Lust goes on to terrorize another day since she ended up leaving the battle prematurely before we can really get to know her deal. It left me feeling a bit unsatisfied since we didn’t really get to know her deal all that much. Not to mention she arguably might have caused the most amount of damage to the people in the city by turning a lot of them into monsters. It also felt like they weren’t properly prepared to take Lust on in the first place. While Al was able to hold his own against her, we haven’t seen him use any powerful finishing moves that could be necessary to take Lust out. If Reinhard had arrived before she scuttled away, there might have been hope to have defeated her for good. Though we still don’t know if there is a limit to her regeneration or if she has a weakness. If it’s at all like Greed, her name might give a clue to her ability and how it works. But sadly, it looks like we’ll have to deal with her next time. Considering she apparently got what she came for, this unfortunately feels like the overall battle ended in a draw.

Though interestingly enough, when Anastasia brought up how Lust’s actions were determined by a book, that seemed to strike a nerve. Unlike with Petalguess, who revered the gospel as law, Lust seems to not like the idea. Sadly I don’t think we’ll be getting any information on that for a while so I guess I’ll just have to file that away for later. On the flip side, Ferris seemed to be incredibly triggered by the sight of the Demi-Beasts. I might be forgetting stuff about Ferris as why this was, but clearly something about them did not sit right with Ferris. Unless this had to do with how Lust turns people into monsters, just like she kind of did with Crusch. And seeing just how much pain and torture Crusch was going through might have made Ferris desperately cry out for them to die so they could be put out of their misery. It could also be that the two are foils in terms of abilities, where Ferris heals and Lust tortures. While Reinhard came in to save the day yet again, something also seems to be bothering him. Though he might also have reservations of having to kill so many creatures that used to be people.

Now the confrontation with Gluttony was probably the most interesting in this episode. I found it weird how Gluttony would always talk as if they knew certain people. Especially when they would call specific people “brother” like Julius and also referring to himself as “we.” Also gosh, the fact that Gluttony ended up stabbing Ricardo SEVERAL TIMES in the chest in a blink of an eye actually took me aback and I was like “did he just stab him????” At first I thought that Gluttony researched a bunch of people but then it started becoming apparent that there was a lot more to it than that. The fact that he sporadically changes mannerisms, fighting styles and even ways of talking probably should have tipped me off. But then he goes and insinuates that he stole the name and memories of Julius’ brother. At first I was stupidly like: Oh, did Julius have a twin or something a long time ago…? Only to replay the scene again and I saw the ponytail and realized that this was the brother we freaking saw at the beginning of the season and my jaw just dropped. When did he get him??? It was so sudden it almost feels like it happened just to happen. But this is probably the most emotional we’ve seen Julius be considering he was always shown to be so prim and proper. While his mind most likely has forgotten his brother, there’s still a part of him that vaguely remembers and seems to realize that something was stolen from him. What’s more is that it seems to hint at that despite how much of a brother worshiper he was, there was still a part of him that resented Julius for some reason. I’m so curious to see what becomes of this since it delves more into Julius as a character and ever since the first season, I’ve always liked the guy.

And then we have Otto and the others doing their best to fend of another Gluttony somewhere else in the city and this is when things start coming together. We’ve had the information that Gluttony steals people’s names and memories, but I didn’t realize that it would show through Gluttony. It explains the sudden change of emotions, mannerisms and fighting styles. Gluttony is literally acting upon the emotions and memories of the people he’s eaten. Which is probably why he refers to himself as “we” because he’s composed of so many people’s memories and names. It was so haunting watching him eat someone’s name and memories right in front of them and then act upon them while the person who knew him was having a breakdown over losing his memories of said person. That whole scene was really well done with how trippy everything felt with people losing their memories of a person that is right in front of them.

Though the tension broke a little when Otto told everyone to not say his name… only to find out that literally no one already didn’t even know his name. Poor Otto lol.

While they all did their best, there was really no one in that group that could have beaten Gluttony. Otto did put up a good surprise attack on him by implanting explosives on him after tackling him from behind, but it ultimately didn’t do much unfortunately. But goodness, I was horrified at the notion of Gluttony biting off one of Otto’s fingers to torture him into giving him his name… Only for BEATRICE TO FREAKING SHOW UP and even change the title of the episode. Which honestly felt like such a boss move. I’m so glad that she’s back, but how did she get enough mana to build back her strength? Hopefully we find out in the next episode.

But one of the best moments ends up happening when Gluttony reveals to already know Beatrice’s name. Initially I was like: how does he know- OOOOOOOOOH…! The way this guy invoked Rem’s mannerisms and way of speaking was just, man it was so disturbingly haunting. It was great. Especially since now I understand why Gluttony got so excited at the notion of seeing Subaru after hearing his speech. The guy was acting on Rem’s memories. And while Beatrice doesn’t remember Rem, she seems to know just how important it is to take Gluttony down and for Subaru to not engage with him. She knows how painful it would be for Subaru to see Gluttony act and talk like Rem. It’s honestly really touching to see how determined both Beatrice and Otto are to defeat him to protect Subaru and I’m rooting for the two of them. But I feel like Subaru will have to end up facing Gluttony one way or another since he’s the last Sin that’s seemingly still in action since Wrath is currently mia and Lust has retreated. And seeing how both Beatrice and Reinhard helps steady Subaru in the ending, I feel like the two of them are going to be a big support for him in the coming episode.

I can’t believe the next episode is going to be the end of the season. It still feels like there’s a lot of things that have yet to get wrapped up, but I guess we’ll have to see how everything plays out and if it ends up feeling rushed or not. Like what the crap is going on with Al and why he seemed suspicious of Anastasia, Garf’s situation and if his mom’s husband is okay, what is going to happen to all the people who turned into monsters, is Mimi okay? There are still a lot of things that need to be addressed. Hopefully this season ends well considering it’s had a little bit of pacing issues and hiccups in satisfying conclusions here and there. In any case, I’m excited to see where and how this season ends and how soon we can hope to see another season.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
