Satoru Gojo Introduction
Gege Akutami designed Gojo, a character with supernatural powers, to be both powerful and easy to understand. His design features a blindfold, the Six Eyes, which allow him to see through and manipulate Cursed energy. Akutami linked Gojo and Yuta Okkotsu to Michizane Sugawara, a famous figure in Japanese history, as a tribute to his late editor, Yamanaka.
Gojo’s design is a handsome man, often called bishonen, with his facial design inspired by a major Naruto character covered in bandages. Akutami wrote Gojo’s relationship with his students, Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu, by their first names, as he believed Gojo did not have proper considerations for social traditions.
Sunghoo Park, the director of the anime adaptation and prequel movie, adapted one of Gojo’s early scenes, focusing on the story of Okkotsu and Rika, as well as the past relationship between Gojo and Geto. The animated movie also focuses on the story of Okkotsu and Rika, with a new fight scene between Gojo and Miguel in the climax.
Gojo’s Appearance
Satoru, a tall, lean, and muscular man in his late twenties, is known for his attractive facial features, including snow-white hair and vibrant blue Six Eyes. He covers his eyes with a black blindfold for a spikier appearance and wears sunglasses for casual looks. Satoru wears a dark blue zip-up jacket, slim-fit black pants, and black dress boots. He enjoys wearing expensive clothing and pairs it with sunglasses. As a Tokyo Jujutsu High student, Satoru wore the standard school uniform with sunglasses before adopting a makeshift blindfold. During the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, Gojo wore a tight-fitting black shirt, white baggy training pants, and black martial arts slippers.
Gojo’s Personality
Satoru is a complex individual who is often laidback and playful, but also unsympathetic and cruel towards sorcerer executives. He is overconfident in his abilities and reputation as a powerful sorcerer, believing himself to be invincible. Satoru is apathetic towards anyone he deems weak and is arrogant, believing himself to be the strongest in the world. He learns reverse cursed technique and falls into a manic fighting state during intense battles, characterized by aggressive and domineering attacks. In a crisis, he prioritizes his enemies’ destruction over saving innocent people.
Despite his arrogance and strength, Satoru is more human than he first appears. After defeating Toji, he retrieved Riko’s corpse with a sorrowful look, showing grief over her death. He sought to kill the Star Religious Group members who were clapping over Riko’s death but was stopped by Suguru Geto. Satoru was horrified and panicked after learning that his best friend, Suguru, had become a murderous curse user. His trauma over losing his best friend caused his downfall in Shibuya and his eventual downfall in Shibuya.
Satoru’s dream is to reform the jujutsu world through education, fostering a new generation of sorcerers who he hopes will one day become his equals.
