At least there was violence against children.
Impressions:
Very uneventful episode, but that’s what happens when you put the resident serial killer in timeout and don’t let him Iago his way into convincing people into murder/suicide. He would’ve had an uphill battle on that for these two as well. One’s some old jazz musician who just spontaneously died, and the other is some bratty kid with asthma and cat allergies who decided to hug a sick stray cat at the top of a slide to exactly the results you’d expect. Neither mystery was mysterious at all, and the most exciting part was a slide erupting from the earth just to throw the kid at the ground. Cinema.
But this was actually for Atori’s backstory. He was a music student, and a bandmate yelled at him once for not having enough passion. That’s it. That’s his entire backstory. So the jazz dude tells him “Eh, whatever.” …And that too, is it. Now that’s character development! First the nonsensical obsession over some literal random dude, then just getting told to ignore him and doing just that. Maybe we just needed another six moments of Atori going “…………” for the monumental weight of the melodrama to really sink in.
