Since its debut in 2018, The Family Business has only gained momentum, expanding its world beyond New York with the launch of its New Orleans spin-off in early 2025. Now in its fifth season, the BET drama continues to captivate audiences with its high-stakes family empire.
The series stars Ghostbusters alum Ernie Hudson as the patriarch of the Hudson family, a powerful dynasty that owns a chain of car dealerships in New York City.
The Family Business Season 6 Release Window Announced
After months of speculation, creator Carl Weber has officially confirmed that Season 6 will premiere in fall 2025.
Weber addressed fans’ questions on Facebook, clarifying the timeline for both the main series and its spin-off:
“‘Family Business’ in the fall and ‘Family Business NOLA’ late winter.”
He doubled down on this statement when questioned about production delays, insisting he had not misled fans:
“Hold, I didn’t lie. I said ‘Family Business’ in the fall and ‘Family Business NOLA’ in later winter.”
While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, previous seasons have typically premiered in September or October on BET+. Given this pattern, Season 6 will likely follow suit.
In January, Weber shared that he was still writing the new season, making a fall release seem realistic. Fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the Hudson family saga won’t have to wait much longer!
What Will Happen in The Family Business Go in Season 6?
When The Family Business returns for its sixth season, fans can expect tensions to be at an all-time high.
Season 5 left several unresolved storylines, particularly surrounding Ernie Hudson’s character, LC Duncan, as he fights to keep his family’s empire thriving in New York City. However, internal conflicts within the Duncan family continue to grow. While LC and Valarie Pettiford’s Chippy have worked to keep the family united, their children, Junior and Donna, have been pushing to carve their own paths.
So far, LC and Chippy have allowed their children some independence, but that dynamic could shift dramatically in Season 6.
While Hudson hasn’t given specific details about the upcoming season’s storyline, he did express his passion for playing LC Duncan during a conversation with The Direct at February’s Comic-Con The Cruise. He spoke about his character’s complexity, saying:
“I love the character… One of the reasons I wanted to do the show is the family dynamic. It’s all about family, but I also wanted to make sure LC wasn’t too diplomatic. He has to be someone you know can take control when needed.”
This balance between power and diplomacy will likely remain central as the series progresses.
The Family Business Season 6 is slated to premiere on BET+ this fall, though an exact release date has yet to be announced.
