Hi Friends!!
I am so excited to share our New {Old} Kitchen Cupboard with you today! I say it’s new/old because even though it’s not decades old, it’s loaded with lots of old world character and although purchased second hand it’s new to us! I shared a sneak peek of it on Instagram just before the holidays and mentioned it was probably my favorite find to date, and that statement is 1000% true! I can’t wait to give you a close-up and show you the look of how I’ve styled our new kitchen cupboard so far.
Come and see ~
Facebook Marketplace does it again. After finding my first hutch (shared here) shortly after we moved into this house, I began my search again, only this time for a piece of furniture that could go in our kitchen and replace a built-in desk area we didn’t need. I came across a few maybes that might have worked, but none of them were exactly what I was envisioning for in our kitchen.
I loved the idea of something with doors for closed storage, but wanted something that would have a different feel than our kitchen cabinets. Ideally, I wanted wood, but also contemplated a painted antique hutch that would add a different finish to the space. When I came across this one, I was so glad I had held out and waited for the right one, because it’s perfect!
A second-hand Restoration Hardware cupboard, with glass doors, and cremone bolt hardware, with dimensions allowing it to fit into this space perfectly! This new cupboard measures 71″ wide by 91″ tall. Thankfully it comes in two pieces which made it just a tiny bit easier to move her into her new home.
For the top portion, I styled the shelves with some of my favorite white serving pieces, like cake stands for height and pitchers in varying sizes. Along with extra dinner plates, ramekins, and serving bowls I like to use when entertaining.
To break up all of the serving pieces, I brought in some of my nicer-looking cookbooks and a favorite still-life painting from Miss Mustard Seed that I had purchased last year.
You can imagine my excitement when styling these shelves, just pretending to be a shop owner, having the biggest smile on my face while I imagine having the cutest little store.
In the closed storage below, I placed my inherited china set, extra stemware, and additional serving boards I have collected over the years. This cupboard reminds me of the open shelves I had in my kitchen at our previous home, providing me with a spot where I can display some of my favorite pieces, while also providing practical storage.
This style of hardware has always been a favorite of mine. It’s fully functional, and I love the character it adds. Below is a close-up of the beautiful patina throughout the entire piece.
Our kitchen cupboard is placed at the furthest end of our cabinets. You could say it was meant for this space, as it fits perfectly. I’m not going to lie, there were a few times when we were bringing it in that I wondered if it would fit.
There used to be a built-in desk area that matched the rest of our kitchen cabinetry. While esthetically the desk area looked nice, it was an area we didn’t use, or really need (especially with our new office built-ins complete) and became more of a drop zone collecting a never-ending pile of paperwork and bills.
Below is what it looked like BEFORE :
After :
I love the warmth and character it adds to our kitchen. It feels right at home in our historic colonial, like it was here all along. After searching for the past 3 1/2 years, I’m so glad I found the perfect piece to make our kitchen feel complete.
