I adopted the AirTag very early on, attached it to my daily backpack (via a cheap Amazon key ring holder) and forgot all about it, the AirTag hangs inside the front pocket and I’ve changed the battery twice in its life, firmware updates are handled by itself and my iPhone. Other than the odd ping I’ve left it behind (at least I know it works) I rarely hear from the thing and thats the whole idea of an insurance policy you only really use it when you need it.
So the AirTag is an lost item insurance policy – which has slowly crept up in price I remember paying £29 for mine when it first release, I’ve since add the BikeBac tracker to my bike which uses the ‘Find My’ network of over a billion devices worldwide.
If you’ve read my review of the BikeBac you’ll understand it comes with 2 holes allowing you to attached it to the bike frame via the drinks bottle cage. The AirTag is a round ufo shaped disk with no means of attaching without buying something else, and I wanted to track the location of a couple more important items with an elegant solution.
The first item I want to “constantly track”, is my Golf bag. I could slip an AirTag in one of the many pockets and forget about it, root around when the battery tells me its low, change it and repeat but I do switch between two types of bag regularly and I know it’ll get forgotten or left in the wrong bag. I could buy two AirTags, and use something like the Moment or Elevation Lab fabric mounts.
The Moment mount sticks to the inside of a pocket, or inside of a bag giving a pouch to slip the AirTag inside, with some cleve angling you’ll have a pouch with defies gravity but also allows a level of serviceability to change the battery.
The Elevation Lab fabric mount, is exactly the same concept as the moment, but its stuck for life giving a great waterproof seal – great for a golf bag which can see all 4 seasons in one summers day in the UK.
