A Bell cable installation running between two Toronto homes is drawing criticism online after photos showed live electrical wires awkwardly encased in what appear to be plumbing pipes, hanging loosely above a narrow alley.
The unusual setup has reportedly been struck by passing vehicles three times in the past year. The most recent incident caused significant property damage and prompted a 911 call, according to an X user posting under the name @JustCanadian7, who says the line has never been properly secured.
“This time [it] caused a lot of property damage and a 911 call,” the user wrote, sharing an image showing exposed wires protruding from makeshift tubing.
Telecom watchdog account @fanCRTCProfling called the setup “bizarre” and questioned its safety. “In 25 years I don’t think I ever saw someone file a CRTC Part-1 about safety issues. Maybe it’s time?” the account said, urging advocacy groups to take action.
Bell responded to the post, saying, “Thanks for bringing this concern to our attention. Please send us a Direct Message with the complete address or location to properly look into this as soon as possible.”
