Free Starlink Wi-Fi Now on Select Flights • iPhone in Canada Blog

WestJet is now offering free in-flight Wi-Fi on 16 of its 140 planes (Boeing 737-900 aircraft) using Starlink, the satellite internet service run by SpaceX.

The airline confirmed the rollout today in an email, saying it received federal approval and has started activating the service, according to The Canadian Press. WestJet plans to finish installing Starlink hardware on its narrow-body planes by the end of this year, with its larger aircraft set to follow by 2027.

The new system promises faster speeds for passengers. Starlink is becoming more common in aviation. Airlines like United and Air France are also using it, and more than half of Canada’s provinces and territories rely on Starlink for emergency and internet services.

How to access this free inflight Starlink Wi-Fi? You just need to register as a WestJet Rewards member.

WestJet chose Starlink after a bidding process in 2023, finalizing a multi-year deal last July that also involves Telus, announced last July. The launch date was originally set for late 2024, but that slipped into early 2025 as we can see now. The faster Wi-Fi service officially went live earlier this month.
