It’s no secret that you can change the skin tone of your favorite Emojis on your iPhone or iPad to give your messages more character, expression, and personalization, but doing so isn’t without its quirks. For example, you’ll need to set the skin tones for your Emojis one-by-one, which can be a painstaking process.
iOS developers PoomSmart and xVBaKeRXv wanted to streamline this process, and we think they’ve done it with the release of a new and free jailbreak tweak called EmojiSkinTones.
With EmojiSkinTones, users can select their device’s default Emoji skin tone so that your chosen selection takes effect for all your Emojis from the start, rather than having to dial in your preferred skin tone for every one of your Emojis as you use them in your messaging.
Once installed, EmojiSkinTones adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak to their liking:
Here, you can choose your preferred default skin tone, which can be any of the following offered options:
- Default
- Light
- Medium-light
- Medium
- Medium-dark
- Dark
According to the notes in the preference pane, this setting will apply to all skin tone-sensitive Emojis in the Emoji keyboard. It will automatically appear the next time you go to use an Emoji, saving you the time and hassle of having to configure it on a text-by-text basis.
It’s worth noting, however, that you can still manually modify Emoji skin tones the old-fashioned way after installing EmojiSkinTones, however the default value will be what you choose instead of the default that comes with iOS (typically a Simpsons-like yellow).
If you’re interested in giving the new EmojiSkinTones jailbreak tweak a try, then you can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via your favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken devices running iOS 8.3 and later, including rootless jailbreaks on the latest firmware.
Those not already taking advantage of PoomSmart’s repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:
