The iPhone 17 Air’s Poor Battery Life Could See A Return Of The Battery Case

Apple is expected to announce an ultrathin iPhone 17 Air later this year, and the lack of thickness could see the device’s battery life suffer.

Now, a new report claims that we can perhaps see that manifest in the return of Apple’s battery case.

According to The Information, Apple’s internal testing has seen that some users will be able to get through a whole day’s use with an iPhone 17 Air without charging.

It’s said that the number of people who fall into that category is between 60% and 70%, but the same figure for other iPhones comes in as high as 90%. With the iPhone 17 Air set to be just 5.5mm thick, the lack of space for a large battery appears to be an issue, and Apple is aware of the problem already.

So much so, we’re told, that Apple could be ready to bring the MagSafe Battery Pack back to the lineup. The battery pack was released alongside the iPhone 12 series of devices, but it was later canceled as iPhone batteries continued to improve.

The suggestion that people may need to buy a new case with a built-in battery to get an iPhone 17 Air through the day will no doubt prove problematic for some, especially given the fact that it is expected to be a premium model with a price to match.
