The iPhone 17 is on its way, but don’t expect a smaller Dynamic Island this year.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the size of the Dynamic Island will stay pretty much the same across the entire iPhone 17 lineup. This contradicts earlier rumors suggesting otherwise.
Analyst Jeff Pu predicted last year that the iPhone 17 Pro would use a new “metalens” technology for Face ID which would shrink the Dynamic Island significantly. However, Kuo’s latest update suggests Apple might not be making that change after all.
The Dynamic Island was introduced with the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022 and hasn’t seen any major changes since its debut. While there’s been speculation that Apple wants to make it smaller to free up more screen space, it seems that hardware change might take a bit longer.
Even though the Dynamic Island isn’t getting a makeover, Apple has other exciting plans for the iPhone 17 models. A new iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a super slim design, marking Apple’s first major redesign in years. On top of that, both the iPhone 17 Air and Pro models are expected to get a fresh horizontal camera setup.
There’s still a lot we don’t know, but these updates could make the iPhone 17 lineup feel fresh, even without changes to the Dynamic Island.
