TikTok is rolling out new tools to help users take more control over what shows up on their ‘For You’ feed—the app’s personalized content hub used by more than a billion people globally.
Starting today, TikTok users will see updates that aim to make content discovery more relevant, customizable, and transparent. The new features include:
- Manage Topics – A setting that lets you increase or decrease how often you see content from popular categories like Travel, Nature, Creative Arts, and Sports.
- Smart Keyword Filters – An AI-powered upgrade to TikTok’s existing keyword filtering system. It now automatically includes related terms and synonyms, and will soon allow bulk editing and up to 200 keywords.
- A New Educational Guide – A simplified resource to help users understand and customize their feed, launching globally with explainer videos in the coming weeks.
The updates are part of TikTok’s larger effort to give users more control while maintaining safety—especially for teens. Existing safeguards like “Why this video?” and Restricted Mode are being expanded, along with stricter content recommendations that limit exposure to sensitive or repetitive topics.
Creators like Canada’s Science Bae (@science.bae), a molecular biologist who makes STEM content engaging, are highlighted as examples of how users can discover new voices and communities using the updated feed.

The ‘For You’ page algorithm has always (eerily) learned what you’ve seen and like, and now you can customize it yourself with a focus on topics and keywords. TikTok says the new tools will continue to evolve, with AI-driven filters becoming smarter the more they’re used.
