Apple has officially released the first public beta of iOS 18.5, introducing a handful of subtle yet impactful enhancements aimed at refining the user experience.
While this update doesn’t bring any new features, it focuses on improving existing functionalities, particularly within the Mail app and the AppleCare & Warranty section.
The Mail app receives notable updates in iOS 18.5, offering users greater control over their inbox appearance and organization. Users can now directly toggle the display of contact photos within the app, a feature that was previously accessible only through the Settings menu.
Additionally, the update introduces the ability to manage email categorization more efficiently. By accessing the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the Mail app, users can now easily enable or disable features such as AI-prioritized messages, grouped messages by sender, and smart categories. These options were initially introduced in iOS 18.2 but lacked in-app toggles.
iOS 18.5 also brings improvements to the AppleCare & Warranty section within the Settings app. A new banner featuring the AppleCare logo has been added, providing users with a more intuitive interface to access warranty information and support options.
Beyond the Mail app and AppleCare updates, iOS 18.5 includes:
- Back Tap Notifications: A new banner notification appears when the Back Tap feature is activated, helping users identify accidental triggers.
- Recently Deleted Folder Improvements: The “Recover All” and “Delete All” buttons have been reintroduced in the Recently Deleted album within the Photos app, streamlining file management.
- Satellite Messaging Expansion: Satellite messaging support has been extended to users in the UK, enhancing connectivity in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
