Monterey Bay Aquarium — It’s Endangered Species Day!

This Endangered Species Day, we’re celebrating some of our most iconic and vulnerable travelers — green sea turtles! 🐢

These gentle grazers act like underwater gardeners, keeping seagrass beds healthy and thriving by ‘trimming’ the blades and stimulating new growth as they feed.

Green sea turtles play a key role in maintaining a healthy ocean, but issues like habitat loss, plastic pollution, and illegal harvesting of this endangered species make it harder for them to increase their populations.

What’s one thing you can do to help recover the green sea turtle?

Choose sustainable seafood according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program to help reduce the pressure on delicate ocean ecosystems while at the same time protecting them from harmful and unregulated fishing.

By making ocean-friendly choices, we support an abundant ocean—one that sustains marine life and communities for generations to come.
