Polyp Lab’s New Genesis Rock Power Rack Provides Insane Surface Area | Reef Builders

Recently released Polyp Lab’s new Power Rack for their Genesis Rock is the easiest way to add massive amounts of surface area to any system. Each rack can hold four genesis rocks and on top of that the racks are stackable. This allows users to ensure there’s adequate biological filtration even in small systems as the unit takes up a total space of 4 x 4 x 7/8 of an inch thick. Polyp Lab reports that each block provides up to 11,000 square feet (1,000 meters) of surface area. Thus having four of them would equate to 44,000 square feet (4087.74 meters).

The rack alone retails for $34.99 or the full pack with the rack, two flow detectors and four genesis blocks retails for $74.99

Because the rack holds the genesis rock’s in suspension this allows for the plates to grow both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria allowing for good oxygenation and circulation around the exterior of the system while still protecting the internal portions from excess oxygen.

We have some of these racks systems on the way to the studio. I am curious if a. they will affect the microbiome in any significant way and b. if they may leach any trace elements as some other bio media’s are reported to do. I have heard of some people who maintenance aquariums for a living encountering no issues with this product so I am cautiously optimistic and excited to test them.

If there’s no downsides to their use this opens the gate for extremely minimalistic coral heavy aquascapes where instead of utilizing copious amounts of rock users can instead use real estate for even more coral as their biological filtration will be taken care of in the sump in a small compartment.

If you would like to purchase the power rack you can get it at Polyp Lab’s website here. Or Champion Lighting & Supply here.
