The Red Sea has released two new updated product lines today—the G2 version of their ReefLEDs and ReefRun return pumps. I will summarize the available information about both, starting with the LED.
ReefLED G2
Three ReefLED G2 models are available: the 60, 115, and 170. Red Sea claims these lights “offer more power, more glow, and more options.” The G2s have a new chipset and compact arrays, which allow them to be tuned from 8,000K to 23,000 K.
The fixtures still sport the REEF-SPEC spectrum the G1 features, but it’s been modified so the peak sits at 470 nm, and there’s also more “violet and ultraviolet” output.
The ReefBeat app also comes with five new color and intensity presets, including UV, coral photography, and more. The fixtures also come with optional visors, which cost an extra $15 USD and help reduce glare.
The fixtures retail for the following prices:
- G2 60 = $269.00
- G2 115 = $429.00
- G2 170 = $669.00

The spectrum of the fixture compared to the G1 reported by Red Sea. A slight shift in the primary peak (470 nm) and a slightly wider spectral width can be observed.

ReefRun G2
The ReefRun G2 DC return pump comes in 4 models: 120, 400, 600, and 800. Red Sea claims the new G2 model produces “more flow for less energy.” Below is data comparing the flow rate and energy usage and a breakdown of various specs.

We will soon have these units for principal testing. Stay tuned for data and a full-fledged review. Retail and availability information will also follow as soon as we have information.
