My review and thoughts on Bluey: Let’s Play Verandah Santa!

This is a fun board book featuring Bluey and her family. While the family relaxes near Christmas time, Muffin wonders how Santa gets to deliver the presents if a family has no chimney. Perhaps he leaves them on the verandah, it’s suggested, and then everyone wants to play Verandah Santa. The board book is filled with glossy board pages that have smooth rounded corners and some fun lift-the-flaps too.

Bluey and the others all want to play Verandah Santa so they all go to bed. Once they are sleeping Santa creeps in on the verandah and goes to deliver everyone presents, but Bluey decides to take a peek. The story is a fun one and different from what I thought it would be. I love the way verandah Santa is played with everyone going to sleep and Santa creeping into the bedroom to deliver the presents, though it doesn’t quite go the way you think it will, especially later on. The illustrations are all so fun and colourful with some nice details in them which you can spot on each page and I do like some of the unspoken details that show you who Santa is.

There are flaps to lift on each page which reveal more of the story and I have to say that last flap was a brilliant surprise as I didn’t expect that ending. It’s a great one though and makes you instantly smile. A fun and different lift-the-flaps book and Christmas story.
