One of the best ways to make extra cash is to offer services as a freelance writer. A service-related side gig gives you the potential to earn an excellent hourly rate for your time, and you can start making money quickly.
As a freelance writer, you can finish your work whenever it fits your schedule. Your work can also be as big or small as you want it to be. If you just want to take an extra job here and there, writing a few hours each week, that’s possible. If you want to scale up and make freelance writing a full-time income, that’s possible, too.
The demand for skilled writers is very high. So much content is published online daily, and most websites and blogs rely on freelancers to create that content. There are even plenty of freelance writing jobs for beginners that are ideal for getting started.
Freelance writing has been a great way for me to earn extra income over the years. I landed my first gig in 2007, and even today, I write for a few different clients.
By taking a specialized approach, you can focus your work on topics you know and enjoy. It feels less like work when you like the topics you’re writing about.

According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary for a full-time (40 hours a week) U.S.-based transcriptionist is more than $59,000. About 15 years ago, I started my first blog when I was looking to make some extra money and work from home. That blog did quite well, and I left my full-time job about 1.5 years later. For the past 13+ years, I’ve been self-employed as a full-time blogger.
I recommend blogging as an excellent way to make good money because it changed my life. Blogging is a perfect way to make extra money on the side, and the income potential is unlimited. It takes work, but earning $1,000 a month is very possible.

Despite all the great things about blogging, there are also a few drawbacks. The most significant thing you need to know is that building a successful, profitable blog takes time. Most bloggers don’t make any money for several months, maybe longer. So if you need money quickly, starting a blog is probably not one of the best ideas for you.
However, if you have a long-term focus and can put in some work for a few months without the need to make money quickly, starting a blog can be a great idea with a big payoff.

7. Start a Niche Website
Niche websites are content-based sites very similar to blogs but with a few key differences, including:

- Most niche websites are not personally branded like a lot of blogs are. The readers don’t necessarily care who is behind the niche website.

Typically, the approach involves creating content that targets specific keywords and phrases people are searching for. Niche websites generally get the majority of their traffic from Google searches, but traffic from social media, ads, and email lists also earns niche site owners monthly income.
Like blogging, building a profitable niche website takes time and patience. However, with persistence and consistent effort, it’s possible to make a pretty good income by the end of the first year.

My wife and I started a side hustle selling private-label products on Amazon in 2015. That online business made a six-figure profit in 2016 (while working part-time), and we sold the business in 2017.

Last year, I interviewed Nathan Clarke about making $500 – $1,000 extra cash every month by selling on eBay, on top of a full-time job. At the time, Nathan had been selling on eBay for about a year and had steady income growth. (Read more in How to Sell on eBay for Beginners.)
This approach involves going to yard sales, estate sales, thrift stores, flea markets, or auctions to find low-priced items you can buy and resell. It may sound intimidating at first, but once you get a feel for the types of things that sell for a nice profit, it’s a relatively easy way to make more money.
Flipping items is a perfect side gig because you can hit yard sales and other places on the weekends or whenever you’re off and then list the items in your spare time.
