Carnival and other mainstream cruise lines are not known for offering tons of healthy dining options because most cruise passengers admit they want to indulge on vacation.
But as demand for more healthy food choices increases on land, is it rising at sea too? That’s what Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald wants to know.

Heald, who admits he’s more into cruise comfort food than salads, recently shared a message he received regarding Carnival’s lunch salad selections on his popular Facebook page.
“Writing about salads John even though you have never seen one LOL,” the unidentified passenger joked. “A salad is a regular, healthy meal. Salads are tasty, and full of nutrients John. Try it just once.”
After poking fun at the beloved brand ambassador, the passenger explained the reason for her salad message.
“I know Carnival is all about the burger but I just sailed on the Vista, loved the ship, loved the salad for lunch were the same salad choices that were served all week long. I didn’t mind but DH was on his first cruise and frankly thought it was fairly strange,” the passenger wrote.
“Interchange the salad items with new offerings every day,” the passenger requested. “Those of us who support a healthy lifestyle would appreciate it.”

Carnival brand ambassador asks for feedback on salad choices
In the post, Heald also shared his own take on salads, as a non-expert and notorious jokester, of course.
“Thank you and this lovely lady has made an interesting point. Do we have enough salad choices? As she so kindly mentions, I am not a salad expert,” Heald said. “However, I did notice on the Carnival Magic last week there was a chicken staring at the lido buffet. It was a chicken sees a salad.”
“Anyway, your salad thoughts please,” Heald wrote as he opened the post for passenger comments.

The comments on the post make it obvious that most Carnival cruise passengers lean more toward comfort food on their cruise vacations. Some did agree that they’d like to see additional options or variety added to the salad bar though.
“Despite her comment that Carnival is “all about the burger” I have seen crowds of people anxiously waiting for Guys Burgers to open… never seen a group of impatient cruisers circling the salad bar waiting for it to open,” Dave McCulloch noted.
Most cruise passengers are satisfied with Carnival’s salad options
While most cruise passengers think Carnival offers an acceptable amount of salad choices, some said they’d like to see the salad bar include grilled chicken and other protein toppings. A number of passengers also indicated that they want the cruise line to bring back the mushrooms that it previously offered.
“I mean….there’s a whole salad bar. Only thing I’d like to see added is grilled chicken to top it with for the salad bar on lido,” suggested Jennifer Smalls. “Although The way I see most people making their salad…..it’s no longer healthy.”
One passenger also offered a helpful tip for cruisers looking for additional salad toppings — check out the burger and taco toppings bars.

“I enjoy the salad bar- the offerings are fine. If you want other toppings just visit the toppings bar from Guys/ Blue Iguana to add,” Tina Coblentz Peterson suggested.
Although some passengers would like to see Carnival make more vegetables and fruits available at every meal, they don’t want to lose burgers and fries from the cruise line’s popular Guy’s Burger Joint in the process.
“A lot of truth John! Having sailed with Carnival since 1981, we have seen many changes to meals and services,” wrote Pete Whitaker. “Having to move to the Mediterranean Diet because cancer, options on both at [main dining room] and Lido. I suggest expanding the salads, vegetables and fruits every meal. But don’t [take] Guys!!”
