Jeff Raizner is one of my favorite colleagues from Texas. He has always welcomed me since I first stepped foot in Texas. We speak deeply about policyholder issues and his heart is always in the right place. We have battled insurance companies, co-counseled on cases, and discussed property insurance case law at a depth most would never appreciate. Jeff and his partner, Andrew Slainia, obtained a $35 million punitive verdict last week against Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company. I am so happy for them and their client.
The crazy thing about this post is that I have not even spoken with them about this case. We follow defendants we file lawsuits against to see what is happening with other cases. I will have more to report later.
Green Acres Baptist Church was the policyholder. I am certain they are giving thanks for this verdict.
Brotherhood Mutual has the following on its website:
You are called to build the Kingdom.
We are called to protect you.
The jury disagreed.
