HOW TO SCALE BEYOND ONE-TO-ONE SERVICES
Step 1: Create a clear scaling vision
What are your reasons for wanting to scale beyond one-to-one services? Getting clear on why you want to scale your business and having a clear scaling vision is key. For this step I’ve specifically chosen to focus on a scaling vision rather than a scaling goal because it might be that at this stage as you start to scale beyond one-to-one services your first scalable offer might only get you part of the way – and that is fine.
Business owners choose to scale their business for different reasons, and sometimes multiple reasons, but here are the most common reasons.
To make more money
Providing one-to-one services limits the amount of money you can make. There are so many hours you can work and only so far you can raise your prices and still get clients. It is common for business owners to be aware of the financial limit and want more – hence they turn to scaling their business.
To help more people or have a bigger impact
Another limit with one-to-one services is how many clients you can work with. Again due to the time constraints you’ll only be able to have so many clients per week, month or year. For some that limit is fine, but for others their ambitions are bigger that can lead to deciding to scale.
To be able to make money without working aka have a passive income stream
Relying on one-to-one services to generate money is risky. If you can’t work you can’t make money and many business owners become aware of that risk and decide that by scaling and having a passive income stream they can mitigate those risks.
To work less hours
Some business owners get to the point where they don’t work as many hours as they have been, but aren’t happy about making less money. For them, scaling is a way to work less but still make the same amount or more money.
To have more freedom or flexibility
Another reason some business owners decide to scale their business is to have more freedom and / or flexibility. When providing one-to-one services yes you are able to set the times you work, but once someone has booked in you are committed to delivering that service at that time. For some there comes a point where having a full diary with clients becomes a burden and they crave more freedom and / or flexibility.
I’ve just shared 5 common reasons why people decide to scale beyond one-to-one services. It might be that one of those reasons really sticks out for you or there are a number of reasons. Identifying your reasons for wanting to scale will then help you to be able to create a scaling vision.
Some examples of possible scaling visions are:
- To work with over 100,000 people
- To build a business with a 500K+ annual turnover
- To be able to work a 3 day week
- To have a passive income stream that means your essential personal costs are covered
Take a moment to write your scaling vision down as having this to refer back to is important as you move onto the next steps.
Step 2. Choose your first scalable offer
In order to successfully scale your business you are going to need a scalable offer. A scalable offer is essential something you can sell at scale. There are numerous options and choosing the right one is going to be dependent on a number of factors including your scaling vision (hence writing that down first).
Some common scalable offers include:”
- Membership
- Digital course
- Digital product
- Group Programme
- Online Workshops, Trainings and Masterclasses
- Events
- Mastermind
I go further into how to choose the right scalable offer for your business here.
At this stage you’ll want to focus on create one scalable offer. You can have more in the future, but as you transition from one-to-one to scaling in order to not make things overwhelming or overcomplicated focus on just create one scalable offer.
As I mentioned your scalable offer might be able to enable you to reach your ultimate scaling vision, but the thing to focus on is will it be moving you closer.
For example, if you have decided you want a passive income stream then you might decide to create a digital product or course that would enable you to have a passive income stream that generates the amount of money you desire. However, you might decide to run a group programme with the aim of running it a few times live and then turning it into a self-study digital course. Both options are valid choices and will work so it’s about choosing what is best for you.

In SMART SCALING: Make more money and help more people WITHOUT more hustle I’ll share exactly what you need to focus on and do in order to successfully scale your business. |
Step 3. Ensure you have the necessary resources to successfully create and deliver your scalable offer
Once you’ve decided what you want your scalable offer to be you’ll then need to ensure you have the necessary resources. The main two things you’ll need to consider are time and technology. Some scalable offers will need a chunk of time in advance (digital course), but once created can run with minimal ongoing time commitment. Whilst other scalable offers like a mastermind will require minimal time upfront, but will create an ongoing time commitment.
It is usually at this point where if you are a one-to-one service provider that’s fully booked you think to yourself “I just don’t have time for anything else”. This is where you’ll need to make a decision with your long-term vision in mind. For example, you could decide that you’ll make the decision to commit some extra time now to getting your scalable offer up now knowing that it’s worth it in the long-term. Or you might decide to lose a client / take less clients on in the future to free up the time to start building and running your scalable offer. Again there is no right or wrong – only you can decide.
In addition to time you’ll also need to think about the necessary technology. For example, when I started to scale my business I invested in Kartra. Karta is a one-stop solution for online business owners that makes selling and delivering digital products, digital courses and membership super easy. I knew having a one-stop solution where I would not only have the ability to create, house and sell digital products, courses and membership, but could also send my emails from the same place so everything was connected (hello data) was going to be a game changer. You can find out more about Kartra and get a 14 day free trial to try it for yourself here.
With technology you’ll need to ensure you have the right technology for 3 stages: creation, selling and delivery.
Step 4: Create and launch your scalable offer
You are now at the point where it is time to create your scalable offer and launch it into the world. Depending on the type of scalable offer you’ve decided to go for it might be that you need to create the whole thing in advance (digital product or course), or you might be able to sell before you create (a live event, a group programme with a delayed start date).
To maximise the success of your launch you’ll want to ensure you have a proper launch campaign. As with all launch campaigns, there will be the pre-launch phase and then the launch phase. Taking the time to properly plan out your launch is important. You’ll want to decide what marketing channels and platforms you’ll be using for your launch, whether you’ll be using a waitlist function, and then map out what will be happening on a day by day basis.

Step 5: Scale your sales
Once you’ve launched your scalable offer you’ll then need to ensure that you continue to sell your scalable offer. Unless your scalable offer has a timely element (a workshop/event/training that is delivered on a certain date or a group programme / membership that opens and closes) then you’ll want to find ways to be continually marketing your business. For evergreen offers you’ll want to look into evergreen marketing and to make your life easy you’ll want to look at ways to ensure your scalable offer is continually marketed without you having to continually show up on social media
The major shift from selling one-to-one services to selling scalable offers is to move from lead-generating content to sales-generating content. Sales-generating content means that people buy purely from your content and this is vital if you truly want to sell at scale. If you’ve previously been good at lead-generating but most of your sales have come from conversations in the DMs or having calls then you’ll want to look at how to use marketing to sell. This will mean making some shifts in your sales pages, as well as in all of yoru other marketing.
That’s it. You now how to scale beyond one-to-one services.
The fact is scaling your business isn’t rocket science. Hopefully having gone through the steps you can see how possible it is for you to scale beyond one-to-one services. But in order to successfully scale you need to ensure you choose the right scalable offer and that you can sell at scale. If your marketing isn’t up to scratch and you can’t sell at scale you’ll never be able to fulfil your business’ scaling potential.
