Yesterday, Apple revealed a host of enhancements for its software platforms. Although tvOS 26 may not have as many features as iOS 26 or iPadOS 26, it introduces a new screen saver functionality that many, including myself, have long wished for on the Apple TV 4K.
tvOS 26 allows you to enable or disable specific aerial screen savers
For those who own an Apple TV 4K, it’s evident that screen savers rank among the device’s most appealing attributes.
This may seem trivial, but for a product primarily designed for streaming video, it’s the small touches like Apple’s aerial screen savers that distinguish it in the market.
With the arrival of tvOS 26, Apple is rolling out new aerial screen savers filmed in various locations across India.
However, what I find most thrilling about the screen savers in tvOS 26 is a significant new feature.
Now, you can select which aerial screen savers you want to appear and which ones to hide.
To do this, simply navigate to the Screen Saver menu in Settings, then open Aerials and look for the option labeled ‘Choose Aerials.’
Here, you’ll find four categories of aerials:
- Cityscape
- Earth
- Landscape
- Underwater
With tvOS 26, you can freely enable or disable any screen savers you prefer from each category.
This essentially allows you to curate a personalized ‘playlist’ of screen savers for your Apple TV 4K that will be rotated moving forward.
Since the launch of the Apple TV and tvOS, there have been aerial screen savers that I loved and some that didn’t quite appeal to me.
Previously, while it was possible to disable whole categories of aerials, the option to manage individual screen savers was never available.
But with the release of tvOS 26 this fall, you’ll have unprecedented control over your screen savers.
