They walk the pavement with eyes glazed.
You try to make eye contact but they stride

Unfazed.
Walking.
Not seeing
They stroll through pedestrian crossings without a glance.
Cross streets
Take a chance.
They are oblivious
To a driver
Another zombie
But encased in steel
Texting
Driving past.
Earpods in.
Engaging with others
Eye contact
Voided.
Going somewhere but they don’t know they are nowhere.
Nothing can distract them.
They are dispossessed of awareness.
I am looking for clues of the possession.
Is it an alien
A virus
Or is it just another social media session
All I see is a device held in their hand.
Eyes glued
Is that the clue?
They are addicted and they are distracted.
Their attention and life is stolen.
They have a half life.
Not a full life.
They left that behind
Handed over the keys to the Zuckerberg mind.
The TikTok meme
Neurons fried
The fevered social media bind.
They see the life of others
In the stream
Polished and burnished.
Perfect.
They aspire.
To live the life of others seen from the outside.
They don’t see the perspiration of success.
The pain
The stress
That is hidden.
While they cry from the inside.
Seize your life back.
Otherwise the journey will be black.

Their downloads
Their videos
While your dreams are wasted,
On their distractions.
While your time
Attention and actions
And goals
Your desire
To rise and flourish
Are smothered.
