Hi Everyone,
Yes, I realize I’m giving another push for the holidays, but if I don’t, some of you will go shopping elsewhere—and that simply won’t do. ;]
Besides, it’s a helluva lot of fun, especially when I pull out all the stops for truly magical decorating ideas.
My goal? To make your eyes light up. Just like a Christmas tree. (haha)
Some of these ideas also make great gifts, though that’s mostly a separate topic.
The problem is, I’m having so much fun adding things, but I still have to write the post!
A Quick Look Back
The other day, we looked at some wonderful vintage decorating and gift ideas—mainly tabletop items and display pieces for collections of ironstone or transferware.
Mind you, I don’t have collections of either. Not because I don’t want them, but it’s the same old story of space, time, and money.
The Best Christmas Decoration Sources
Today, I’m sharing my favorite sources—some you already know, and some that might be new to you—that offer the best Christmas decorations.
Of course, there’s no single “best.” You might not love my favorites, and I might not love yours. That’s what makes decorating so personal.
My favorite Christmas decorations are magical and full of sophisticated charm. And that doesn’t mean you need to load your tree with hundreds of ornaments (though you certainly can).
The #1 Place for Magical Holiday Decor
If someone asked me to pick only one place for all of my holiday decorating items, the answer is easy.
The answer is Terrain.
Terrain has always been a favorite, but this year their holiday collection is bigger and more beautiful than ever.
The garland above comes in extra-long lengths. And while this is a gorgeous photo, who on earth would throw what looks like bleached cat litter on their floor? Just imagine if the owners have a cat. There would definitely be a little gift for Santa. haha
Above is the twinkling light Christmas Tree at Terrain. I checked, and the twinkles can be turned off. You will find links for all this below or in the all-new Holiday Shop.
Many of you know Terrain is owned by Anthropologie (or “Anthro,” as I fondly call it).
I was thrilled when our local Back Bay Anthro moved even closer to me—until I walked in and discovered that 95% of their home furnishings department was gone.
You can still find the odd candle or accessory in the store, but most of their cool retro-inspired decor has vanished. Thankfully, everything is still available online, and Anthro remains a terrific source for gifts and stocking stuffers.
There’s some overlap with Terrain, as you’ll see some of the same things on both websites. Anthro is more colorful.
The Classics: Beautiful, Reliable Favorites for Winter Holiday Decorating
You already know the Pottery Barn family, which includes West Elm and Williams Sonoma. They are a treasure trove of fabulous holiday decor and ideas.
If you want to make life easy, Pottery Barn even sells complete tree packages with coordinated ornaments and trimmings.
Frontgate also offers exquisite pre-packaged tree designs.
They aren’t inexpensive, but if you have the budget and want a sure thing, they’re gorgeous.
Above is the fresh Protea wreath at Serena & Lily. Sweet doggies not included. I love it when folks paint their house to match their dogs.
S&L also has coordinating garlands and other lovely holiday decor.
Below are some Hidden Gems and Lesser-Known Favorites for Magical Holiday Decorating.
Magnolia
Yes, the Magnolia of Joanna Gaines fame. Her “modern farmstyle” aesthetic is fresh, accessible, and warm. Some may feel the shiplap trend went too far, but overall, Magnolia’s Christmas decor is lovely and well-curated.
Studio McGee
I just added them at 8:30 pm on Sunday. They have a young, earthy aesthetic similar to Magnolia. But, they’re also having 30% off on the entire site and 50% off all of their holiday decorating. They also have trees decorated in what they’re selling. One example is below. Everything they do is classy.
The Enchanted Home
Many of you already follow Tina Yaraghi’s blog by the same name. What began as a small online boutique has blossomed into a substantial e-commerce shop.
I’ll be honest—some of the contemporary furniture offerings feel out of place for her traditional brand, and a few items are out of stock. Still, it’s worth browsing; she carries some truly beautiful accents and ornaments.
Caitlin Wilson
Caitlin has amassed a charming, unique collection, including several miniature houses. They’re all so beautiful!
So, how can you access my favorites? Please go to the holiday shop, or click the links below to go to the individual decor pages. The links are green for the holidays.
1. Favorite Artificial (but don’t look it) trees
5. Christmas and Holiday Mantels
The following started as holiday tree pages, but now include deco and some gifts, too! Please check them out. Each features an all-new obsessively curated widget.
There’s a Part 2 to this post—The Best Etsy Shops for Magical Holiday Decorating.
This is not the same as my annual “Best of Etsy” blog post. That one is just a fraction of what’s coming in the Best of Etsy Guide, which will be updated right after Thanksgiving.
