Watching You by Helen Fields – bytheletterbookreviews
Book Description:
A face in the crowd. A killer in the shadows…
________
On the dark streets of Edinburgh, a killer is waiting.
When a body is found, it is only the beginning. Soon there will be seven more.
In the city’s hospital, renowned surgeon Beth Waterfall is grieving.
Her beloved only daughter fell prey to a vicious stalker a year previously – and now he’s coming for her too.
Edinburgh’s police are desperate.
After one body comes another, and then another. The brutal deaths are all seemingly unconnected, yet DS Lively and forensic profiler Dr Connie Woolwine know they are dealing with a serial killer – they just need to prove it.
But time is running out, and Beth Waterfall already looks set to be the next victim…
The million-copy international bestseller returns with a gripping serial killer thriller that will have you hooked from the first page to the very last.
My Thoughts:
I believe this book is a standalone novel although at times it felt like it was part of a series or maybe that’s just wishful thinking lol. Sam Lively and Connie Woolwine are standout characters that I could easily read more of. Sam is your straight talking DS who takes no nonsense from anyone. He is stuck in his ways until he meets Beth Waterfall who seems set to change things for him. Connie is a psychologist and she reminds me a bit of the main character from Bones. I just love the part she plays even though she can come across as quite strange at times!
This story was easy to follow to say there is quite a team who I have to say are all formidable in their own way. How they connect the dots with different cases that are all very different was mind blowing. Especially when all is revealed as I am still in shock at the outcome. Beth was another character I took to quickly who has had to deal with things no mother would ever want to. The parts with her and Lively were very enjoyable to read and offers some lighthearted reprieve from an otherwise tense ride.
Watching You was a totally unputdownable story. It’s gripping, fast paced and will have you go through an array of emotions. These are characters I would love to see more of as they get under your skin and you just know that they have so much more to offer. The ending left me on such a high as everything is tied up nicely, yes, no cliff hangers here, but it will leave you with your jaw dropped firmly on the floor. Another highly riveting read by the author!
