In other news…. A First Class graduate of the Nigerian Law School has shared a harrowing account of how he was allegedly brutalised and unlawfully detained by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, Makinde Division, Oshodi, just days before his Call to Bar ceremony.

In a detailed post shared online, the victim said the incident occurred in the early hours of July 7, 2025, while he, his brother, and three female friends were returning from an event. They had parked their car at a nearby church where they pay a monthly fee and were walking home when a police Hilux van approached.

According to him, officers led by one Officer Samson descended on them without cause. “We told them we were just heading home, but they wouldn’t listen,” he wrote. “It felt like a competition to see who could beat us most before throwing us into the back of their Hilux.”

He claimed one of their female companions was slapped so hard she began bleeding from her nose, while another had her phone seized and destroyed after being beaten. Their alleged offence? Being outside “late at night.”

Despite pleading that he had a flight to catch for his Call to Bar in Abuja, the law graduate said they were detained at Makinde Police Station for eight hours. “The pain in my chest was unbearable. I was calling the police officer from inside the cell before I was eventually brought to the counter.” he wrote.

The ordeal continued when the women were allegedly forced to sweep police offices before all five were taken to Bolade Mobile Court without formal charges. “We were locked up till 3pm on empty stomachs. They recorded our names and called us ‘miscreants’,” he added.

On July 10, the young lawyer was finally called to the Nigerian Bar, still nursing injuries and emotional trauma. “My day of joy was a day of pain,” he wrote. “Not because God didn’t crown my efforts I graduated with a First Class but because of what the Nigerian Police did to me just days before.”
