Aurora Agency | Communication Arts

Responses by Clément Merouani, creative director, FLOT NOIR.

Background: Aurora Agency is a creative studio based in France, and the objective of the site was to give it a clear, modern and visually distinctive presence that reflects its positioning. The studio’s target audience is a mix of brand clients and agency partners looking for a creative-led team. The goal was to build a site that immediately communicates personality, confidence and clarity rather than a traditional corporate portfolio.

Design core: The most important design intention was to create a strong editorial rhythm: bold typography, confident spacing, and a layout that feels both structured and expressive. We focused on clarity of information while keeping the visual language creative and contemporary. The transitions between sections also help set a narrative pace without becoming overdesigned.

Challenges: Finding the right balance between simplicity and identity. Aurora wanted something clean, but clean can easily become generic. Our role was to shape a minimal design that still feels memorable.

Alternate paths: If we were to start over, I would probably explore a few more interactive paths. However, the project taught us that strong fundamentals—like type, grid and motion—matter more than complexity.

Navigation structure: The navigation is intentionally straightforward. The goal was to reduce friction and let the content breathe. The smooth scroll interactions and the transitions are subtle, meant to add refinement rather than draw attention to themselves.

Technology: We built the site with a headless architecture, using Sanity as the CMS and a custom front end developed by Guillaume Colombel with Nuxt. This setup enabled us to keep the content structure extremely flexible while maintaining full creative control over the front end.

Scrolling is powered by Lenis to ensure a smooth, fluid navigation experience across the site. Animations and transitions rely on GSAP, while Matter.js brings subtle physics-based interactions to life. We focused on clean components, optimized code and precise microinteractions to deliver a polished, performant feel.
