Last Summer, I did quite a few pleinair paintings of Water Lilies. They are so charming and I love the reflections with clouds coming and going. In the mornings the blooms are open but they close in the afternoon. (Who Knew?) Painting at Lake Winnipesaukee on an Island most paintings are naturally of water but even when I travel elsewhere I have noticed water continues to be a theme. I was thinking how great it would be to paint on the water. Mobile easels include anything an artist can cook up. Monet built a water studio and would float down the Seine painting as he floated along. (Image Below) I tried this a few times from the back of a fishing boat but got seasick. Maybe I should try rigging up my easel in a kayak so no one could rock my boat. Then all I would have to worry about is the occasional speed boat going by. Quite a few artists paint in their cars using the steering wheel to fashion an easel if it’s raining or too cold, but the best was a guy who painted standing up in the moonroof. Anyway, wherever you paint, just make sure to come to a complete stop if you decide to paint behind the wheel.
