Gelli Arts® Gel Printed Valentine’s Day Spinner Card by Marsha Valk

Hi there! Marsha here today, sharing a fun gel-printed Valentine’s Day card idea.

Gel printing with one of the new Gelli Arts® DIY Printing Kits is much like cooking. You can follow the recipe. Everything you need to get started is right there in the kit, and the result will be delicious!

You can also use all the same ingredients to cook something entirely different. And you can check your own (art) pantry to see if you have anything you can add to spice things up!

The Gelli Arts® Handmade Card Kit includes a 5×5″ gel printing plate, a brayer, cards, paints, texture makers, and an exclusive step-by-step cardmaking video tutorial by Giovanna Zara.

However, if you add different acrylic paints and a couple of art and craft basics, you can also make these spinner cards:

I’ve themed my spinner cards around Valentine’s Day, but you can adapt this idea to fit any occasion. Just swap the heart for a different shape!

I used the five folded cards in the kit to make three cards. I used the two other cards for my inserts and to create the hearts. Of course, you can also use separate pieces of card to make these inserts and hearts.

Cover the inside of each folded card with gel prints. Use one colour and cover one half-card (insert) with a matching color.

Get creative with the outside of the folded cards. Use your favourite texture makers, such as the Wonderland Stencil, punchinella, a DIY craft stick texture plate, and eyelash yarn.

Also, cover at least one half card with colour and pattern for the hearts.

To cut the hearts, it’s easiest to fold the card in half lengthwise and then divide it into three equal parts. You can draw a heart on each part first, or you can just cut them freehand.

Keep the paper folded while you cut so you end up with two identical hearts that you can glue together.

Trace a circle on the front of the card using a jar or a lid. Trace the same circle on the half-card. Cut it out using a craft knife or scissors.

Use double-sided adhesive to attach thread to one of the heart shapes. This will make sure the thread stays put. Glue the identical heart on top with regular glue.

Attach the threaded heart to the card using double-sided adhesive. Then, adhere the half-card to the inside of the folded card with regular glue. This way, you’ll have some wiggle room to ensure that both circles align perfectly.

And that’s it! Wind the spinner up before you place it in an envelope. Upon opening the card, the recipient will be in for a bit of a surprise!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Marsha.
