Gilded Botanicals on Glass, Wood and Plastic with Gelli Arts® Giovanna Zara

Hello everyone, Giovanna here! In today’s blog, I show you how to repurpose an old or thrifted frame using your beloved Gelli Arts® Gel Printing plate, botanicals, gold leaves and/or metallic foil.

I have had these two craft products in my stash for a long time, rarely used, and I was curious to try them with gel printing, so I experimented a bit transferring botanicals on glass (from the frame) but also on craft plastic (you can use plastic packages) and wood. The results are stunning!

Once you are happy with the result, you can re-insert the printed glass in the frame, leaving it like that or adding a black cardstock on the back for a more dramatic effect.

Gold leaves and metallic foil both work with this technique with a different final look; you can mix them and fix any imperfection while the gilding glue is still wet or adding more glue later.

Enjoy!😊

Step by step process:

-Spread an even layer of mission or gilding glue on the plate

– Lay the leaf on the plate

– ‘Clean’ the plate pressing copy paper

– Lift the leaf

– Press the plate on a glass or the glass on the plate

– Lay the metallic foil (gold part up) on the printed glass side

– Brush the surface with a soft brush

– Lift the metallic foil

TIP: you can fix any mistake and imperfections just adding more glue and foiling again!
