Sunrise Over Port Aransas

WHAT A WEEK!

I just returned from teaching a private workshop in Port Aransas, and we had so much FUN! First, Marilyn is the Supreme Hostess, and her beach house was beautiful and very Fancy! Second, the group was easy going and enjoyed each other, and third, because the house faced the beach, we could paint in all weather. And, boy, did we have weather! It was wild and windy most of the week with dramatic skies, and big waves, but we set up on the porch facing the dunes and the ocean and got some exciting paintings! The painting above is a morning after a big storm, as the sun rose over the boardwalk leading down to the beach. The sun was so orange it cast a peach glow over everything, so I had a hard time mixing the color of the green water. Orange and blue are complements, so when mixed, they make a cool grey. Therefore, the sea should be a duller green, but what’s the fun of that? After all, color is subjective and open to interpretation and style. That’s my story, and I’m stick’n to it!
