Under The Trees

PAINTING WITH FRIENDS

Last week, some of my former students and lifelong friends met (once again) at Hollee’s Farm for our annual “Spring Wildflower Paintout and Delicious Eatathon!” Hollee baked her World Famous Chicken Pot Pie, and we spent 2 days painting, laughing, catching up, while enjoying this special place. Through the years, we have shared many joys and some sorrows, which make for strong bonds of friendship. I feel so honored to have a part in the making of this Special Group. The painting above is a view looking out from deep shadows into the light. Somehow, this image and the end of a poem below sum up how I feel about our many years together.

” And for all this, nature is never spent;

There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;

And though the last lights off the black West went

Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —

Because the Holy Ghost over the bent

World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.”
