MY REVIEW
First of a huge congratulations to Jeriah Boateng for winning Premier League Academy Young Writer of the Year Award. Although Back in Time, by Jeriah Boateng had been published out in book shops, since November 2024, this young author who won the Premier League writing competition, came to my attention just a couple of weeks ago in March, on my local news channel. I immediately went online and purchased my copy from Amazon. Although I’m not football mad, I do like to watch the women’s football on TV, but as for my partner, you have guessed it he supports Leeds, and football crazy. I throughly enjoyed reading Back in Time, as I connected with Valencia, and Madrid, as I have been to those places serval times, visiting all the Spanish stadiums, looking at the football cups, awards, oh and that size of the football pitch. Back in Time covers the topic of racism, sending an important message in how racism really hurts people. In my view racism is a sense of bullying, that there is no place for bullying. I was bullied at school myself. My favourite part of Back in Time, is when football player, Rafael Cruz, is transported back in time, meeting football legend, Laurie Cunningham who was the first ever Black player to play for Real Madrid. Any children that loves football, Back in Time will love every page. It’s definitely a must buy, must read.
About Jeriah Boateng

Jeriah Boateng, an 11-year old from Croydon, is a passionate footballer and writer. He has been an attacking forward for Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. Football Academy since the age of seven and has big dreams both on and off the pitch. His love for storytelling earned him the Premier League Academy Young Writer of the Year Award in both the 2022/2023 season, where he was the U10 category winner, and the 2023/2024 season as the overall winner with his story, Jeriah’s inspiration for this story came from his personal experience with racism in Year 6, at just 10 years old. What’s powerful about his journey is that he has since reconciled with the boy involved, and they are now friends. Jeriah’s story not only breaks barriers but inspires future generations. As the eldest of four siblings, Jeriah is a leader both on the field and at home, where he lives with his parents and younger siblings, Zachary, Ariana, and Elias. Through his writing, Jeriah hopes to inspire young footballers and readers alike by sharing his story and highlighting the challenges of dealing with racism in football, all while he continues his path as an academy footballer. https://www.instagram.com/boateng_ballers
