Book Club And Readalong Series: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader


As part of our 2025 Book Club and Readalong series, we’re continuing our reading of The Chronicles of Narnia with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

This readalong will take place from 24th – 26th March 2025, giving you the perfect time to dive back into Narnia, whether you’re new to this enchanting world or revisiting it after years. Below you’ll find our discussion guide and detailed schedule for our readalong.

As part of our Chronicles of Narnia book club series, we’re setting sail into the next adventure – The Voyage of the Dawn Treader! This is the third book in The Chronicles of Narnia (chronological order) and follows Edmund, Lucy, and their cousin Eustace as they embark on a breathtaking sea voyage with Prince Caspian. From enchanted islands to mysterious creatures, this book is packed with wonder, danger, and some of the most memorable moments in the Narnia series.

Whether you’re reading for the first time or revisiting a childhood favourite, this readalong will be the perfect way to experience Narnia in a whole new light.


Readalong Schedule

📅 Day 1 – 24th March: Setting Sail & Early Adventures

📖 Chapters to Read: 1 – 7

  • Story Prompt: Share a picture of your copy of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader or your cosy reading setup.
  • Discussion Question: What are your first impressions of Eustace? How does he compare to Edmund in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?
  • Challenge: Describe your ideal Narnian island – what magical elements would it have?

📅 Day 2 – 25th March: Trials, Transformation & Temptation

📖 Chapters to Read: 8 – 12

  • Story Prompt: Share a quote from today’s reading that stood out to you.
  • Discussion Question: Eustace’s transformation into a dragon is a key moment in the book. What do you think this metaphor represents?
  • Challenge: If you were part of Caspian’s crew, what role would you play on the Dawn Treader?

📅 Day 3 – 26th March: The Journey’s End & Aslan’s Country

📖 Chapters to Read: 13 – End

  • Story Prompt: Reflect on your favourite part of the book – what moment resonated with you most?
  • Discussion Question: The book ends with Lucy and Edmund being told they will not return to Narnia. How did this moment make you feel?
  • Challenge: Use five emojis to summarise The Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

Discussion Questions

  1. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader introduces Eustace Scrubb, a character who initially comes across as unlikeable. How does his character develop over the course of the book? Did your feelings about him change?
  2. How does The Voyage of the Dawn Treader differ from the previous two Narnia books in terms of structure and themes?
  3. Each island the crew visits has its own unique challenge. Which was the most intriguing or meaningful to you, and why?
  4. What do you think of Aslan’s role in this story compared to previous books? How does he guide the characters without being present as often?
  5. The themes of transformation, redemption, and faith are central to this book. How do these themes play out through different characters and events?
  6. What did you think of the book’s ending and the revelation that Lucy and Edmund will not return to Narnia?
