I am delighted to share my review today for Children of Sinai by Shelley Clarke and Terri Nixon. This is the first book in a fabulous trilogy, that blends many different genres to create an addictive read.

My huge thanks to Zoe at Zoo Loos Book Tours for my spot on the blog tour and for arranging e-copies of the book.

MY REVIEW

I had seen this book around and it reappeared recently with a new cover. I decided that I wanted to give this series a go and the first book has not disappointed.

This is a book based around prophecy’s going back to biblical times. It also has a timeline in 1965 and also as a more present day setting of 2002. The prophecy had been heard before but it had gotten lost over the centuries, distorted, its message lost or adapted. But the the time has come again for it to make itself known again.

John lost his parents Kate and David Milburn in the 60s, he only has snippets of information about what they did as archaeologists but there is a huge amount more that he is not aware of of. In his present setting he is married and has twin daughters. Its not until he reads his parents journals that he discovers more about them and also starts to make connections to his own children.

Wanting to know more he and his childhood friend Todd travel to Israel, not an easy trip. It does, however give them answers and not happy ones, it seems that David is not the only one to have secrets and information that has been withheld.

This is the first book in The Children of Sinai series and it sets out the story, the prophecy, events of the past and the present and the author mixes fact in with fiction. I say author, but this is a collaboration and together, Shelley Clarke and Terri Nixon have created a story that mixes so many different genres. The family threads and the threads that go back millennia create a wonderful mystery and it has a thriller feel to it as there are lives on the line, there is danger and there is the threat of something biblical to come.

I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of historical fact, fantasy, sci fi and thriller in this book and I was hooked very quickly. There is some flitting back and forth between timelines but this is done so well and it is very obvious when the changes occur. There is quite a cast but they are introduced in a way that makes sense and it has been done for me, at the right time within the story.

If you are looking for a historical fiction and fantasy series that has far reaching implications for its characters then this is one I would definitely recommend.
