December is always a busy reading month as I try to complete as many reading challenges as possible. And in this month I managed to get to a couple of books that I have been meaning to read all year. With my parents being ill for most of the month and their dog also being really sick (who I looked after for part of the month), this was definitely a low-key kind of month for me. So lots of reading was done!

Favourite Book of the Month
This was a fairly easy decision to make. I am easily won over by a nature book with beautiful prose and reflections on history and humanity. I listed to The Living Mountain on audiobook but I definitely want to get a hard copy of it.
Least Favourite Book of the Month
The trouble with reading to certain prompts of a reading challenge is that, while you may find enjoyable books you would never have picked up anyway, you also can find some really dreadful books. I was torn between two choices for this category but X Marks the Spot wins out over Lovers Leap for the simple fact that it managed to take a protagonist that was reasonably likeable at the start of the book and make her absolutely dreadful by the end, as well as completely stupid. She should have died on the flipping island.
Reading Updates
I managed to finish a few reading challenges this month due to my picks of books (even if they didn’t always work out). I read one ARC, five books off my December TBR, 18 books I already owned, 2 books from my 2024 TBR but only 7 books by authors of colour.
Normally I would do my 2024 wrap up here but I think I’m going to do it as a separate post.
How did your December go?
