Max’s Mask is a heartening story about two boys who have trouble playing together at the start of the book; Max always wears a mask and David always tries to take his toys. It is only when Max’s mask comes off and David himself hides behind the armor of a costume that they play together nicely. When David’s identity is revealed, the two realize they can be friends. Early judgements are abandoned and the two start over with kindness.
