My review and thoughts on Spider Hair
This is a fun picture book about a young boy who really wants some new hair. Bear loves it when his grandad holds him close, because his grandad’s beard drapes over his own head and Bear ends up with a full head of hair, but when grandad goes away Bear is upset, because he doesn’t like his own hair which is taking a very, very long time to grow. Could one of the creatures living in his house become his hair instead? This paperback is filled with matt pages of some fun illustrations and text.

The story begins with Bear loving his grandad’s beard as it makes him have a huge head of hair, but when he looks at his real hair there’s hardly anything there. Bear is desperate to have more hair so he asks his cat if she’d become his hair, but that doesn’t quite work out well, so he asks another animal instead. This keeps happening with Bear finally having the perfect hair thanks to some interesting creatures. The illustrations are very fun and I love how the different animals look as Bear is trying to use them as his hair. The fun twist when Bear’s sister appears is great to see and I love how the illustrations show a continuation of this in the end page too! Bear and the animals all look so fun and I love the many different hairstyles Bear manages to eventually get.

The story has a lovely ending which shows the bond between a child and its parent and it’s a lovely ending to this funny story, in fact an ending that will make you smile so much when you read it. A great picture book which also shows some of the fun and silly ideas children often come up with, and the fun interactions they have with different creatures.

What do you think of this book? Do you like spiders or are you terrified of them? What animal would you like to be your hair? Let me know what you think in the comments below 🙂
