Book Review
LOL, another one of my attempts at audiobooks biting the dust. I started listening to this, but I was so impatient to continue that I went ahead and grabbed a Kindle copy. Linda Howard’s books are hit or miss for me—some work brilliantly with a tight-knit plot, a heroine to root for, and a hero to die for. Tears of the Renegade, I’d say, is partly a hit. Yes, because my expectations were low, and it ended up being the kind of mindless read I wanted to get lost in for a few hours. My reading time has dwindled down to almost zero, so I was definitely happy with my choice.
Cord Blackstone’s reason for seeking revenge on his family for the wrongs done to him lacked impact, since the matriarch and her son weren’t portrayed as cruel villains who destroyed our main character. In fact, the whole “black sheep returns for revenge” plot didn’t completely work for me. The intense romance between Susan and Cord was exciting, though I really wanted Susan to show a bit more backbone in her dealings with him.
This is an early Linda Howard book, so if you’re picking it up, just expect the kind of romance typical of that era, and I believe you won’t be disappointed.
Oh well—an entertaining read and exactly what the doctor ordered for a book-craving soul like mine.
My Rating
Book Blurb
Passion mingles with espionage in this reader favorite, first published in 1985. Susan has never known anyone like Cord Blackstone, the sexy black sheep of his family. Cord has a score to settle with the Blackstones–the same genteel clan that sheltered Susan after her husband’s death. Cord will stop at nothing to punish the Blackstones, but what if that means ruining the one woman who can’t stop loving him?
