THE DARKNESS AND THE DEEP BY ALINE TEMPLETON
Paperback published by Hodder 8th February 2007
ISBN-13 : 978-0340838570
The wreck of the Knockhaven lifeboat with the loss of all three of crew is a hard blow for the small Scottish town. But it’s harder still when DS Tam MacNee discovers that it isn’t simply a tragic accident. Was it just the act of vandals, bored in a fishing port stricken with unemployment? Could it be linked to the drugs trade that has taken root in the locality? Or is there someone who, in their determination to kill one person, is callous enough to take two innocent lives? And if so who is the intended victim? As DI Marjory Fleming and her team investigate multiple murders, with a whole community hungry for justice, the pressure professionals and personal is on.
MY REVIEW
I recently bought this crime book in a charity shop, not realising that this book was actually written some time ago back in 2007, but it just goes to show that crime books don’t change, if anything this book is fast paced, just like the crime, thriller books we are all reading today. How about this you can definitely tell this story is going to grab you, from page 2, suddenly, out of the murk a motorbike appeared at the top of the hill, the sound of its racing engine shattering the unnatural silence. It took the bends in to the narrow High Street at speed, then swinging dangerously round the sharp corner into Shore Street, skirted the harbour to stop abruptly where the road ended outside the lifeboat station. A second later it’s burly rider was running towards the entrance, the key ready in the hand. Inside the vaulted shed he found the switchboard with the ease of the long familiarity and a moment later the building was ablaze with light.
