The Forest In The Sky

Journey to a spectacular magical land in The Forest in the Sky! Pari Thomson’s bestselling Greenwild: The World Behind the Door won Blackwell’s Book of the Year and the Waterstones Overall Children’s Book Prize: discover the much-anticipated finale now! With stunning illustrations throughout by Elisa Paganelli.

With the support of the Iffenwilders and their mighty water magic, Daisy and her friends are finally setting off to rescue the Botanists held prisoner in the heart of the Amazon rainforest – including Daisy’s Ma. But when an unexpected attack sends the rescue mission spinning off course, Daisy and Max are separated, and Max shipwrecked on an impossible shore with no way of escape.

Even Daisy’s arrival in Amazeria – the stunning Amazonian pocket of the Greenwild, teeming with green magic – is in jeopardy as the mysterious Great Reaper draws ever closer.

In the shadows of the great rainforest, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Daisy and her friends must draw on every ounce of courage they have to fight for Daisy’s Ma, for the Greenwild, and for everything they hold most dear.

I have been a huge fan of the Greenwild titles, and it seems bittersweet to arrive at the finale, but all good things do come to an end, and this trilogy does so with its usual unbelievable adventure filled, magic brimming, stunningness – and that goes for the illustrations too. I am honoured to be able to share some examples of those that feature inside this book, at the hand of the hugely talented Elisa Paganelli, so check those out below.

We return to Daisy and her friends, the five o’clock club members, as they prepare to leave the city of Iffenwild to head to the Amazon on a rescue mission; that includes Daisy’s mum. With her grandmother at the helm, and the promise of the King of Iffenwild himself, Max, they do indeed seem infallible, with strength in numbers as well as magical skill sets, but Daisy is anxious – and she isn’t the only one. It doesn’t help when wanted posters decend from the sky offering a substantial reward for Daisy herself, and so everyone is on high alert as the final preparations are made prior to setting sail as soon as moonlight begins.

Whilst not everything goes to plan from the hop – namely with King Max travelling to some where else entirely to the intended destination of which everyone else arrives, but thankfully he isn’t completely alone. This cleverly splits the chapters that follow into two destinations with two key characters at the helm, Max for some and Daisy for the others. Arriving at the gateway to the amazon feels lesser then it should now that those who arrived their have realised Max, and Acorn – Daisy’s long time friend, haven’t docked the ship they are on, but its the destination Daisy has fought for so long to get people from Greenwild and then Iffenwild to agree to, and the plan to rescue all those kidnapped and captured botanists, and hopefully reunite Daisy with her mum finally. They aren’t the only ones longing for a reunion, and it is the hope of this becoming a reality that fuels on Daisy and her companions – along with those they have amassed – to see things through to the rightful conclusion.

This is such a delightful book to read, and is one that fills your heart with that joy you associate with believing in something magical, and boy is this book brim full of magical content, perfect for those who are fans of such. The adventures held within this book afford the reader experiences beyond their wildest imagination and rewards them with them coming to life off of the page. This is achieved in part by the stunning illustrations scattered throughout the book, with Elisa Paganelli the talent behind them, as they truly capture the magic and majesty of the unfolding scenes through the use of light and dark, shadows and monochromatic styling that works perfectly with the storyline, especially as there is a true sense of right v wrong, good v evil, light v dark as Daisy and co look to overthrow the Grim Reapers who are destroying green magic and those who manifest it.

I look forward to reading this book again, and endulging in the beauty and brilliance that spans not one domain but many, and accompanying the brave and brilliant Daisy, Max, Prof, Indigo, Acorn, and Artemis along with all those that stand for what is right in the world as they stop at nothing to achieve that which has spanned the trilogy itself in its making, and reaches the absolute perfect conclusion.
