I am delighted to share my review for Unsouled by Will Wight. This is the first book in the Cradle series and I cam across this one on Kindle Unlimited.
This is the final book I read in 2024 and took me over my original target of 150 books for the year.
Total read 151/150.
Sacred artists follow a thousand Paths to power, using their souls to control the forces of the natural world.
Lindon is Unsouled, forbidden to learn the sacred arts of his clan.
When faced with a looming fate he cannot ignore, he must defy his family’s rules…and forge his own Path.
MY REVIEW
This is the first book in this series and also the first time I have read anything by this author. Unsouled is a book that is set in the Cradle, a world where magic-wielding people rule they learn to follow a path that they are favoured for. Lindon, however, is not someone who can channel this. The magic is held within, it is their soul and allows them to project this power. Lindon cannot do this so is known as an Unsouled. This does not mean that he has no power, but what he has is very minimal compared to others.
The paths that are chosen allow the wielders to gradually work their way through various levels and become more an more experienced. Lindon only has his wits to rely on. Through determination, he does get noticed, but this leaves others no enamoured with him or his methods.
This is a good start to a series, it lays down the basics of the world the author has created. There are mentions of the path and how this works for those who progress through it, the way the path makes some stronger and what it means for Lindon. He manages to get himself into trouble, catching the eye of those more powerful. Thsi leads him on his own path, one that he alone can follow.
The story has a strong coming of age feel to it as Lindon discovers more about himself. He learns more about the world he lives in and is aware of there being something else that possibly no one else knows about. This is something that is a bit vague at the present, but is something that I assume the author will garnsih further on during the series.
At the time of reading this book, it was available on Kindle Unlimited and it was on this platform that I became aware of it. A good start to a series that I believe has 12 books and one for those looking to start a fantasy series. I enjoyed this one and I would be happy to recommend it.
Many thanks for reading my post, a like or share would be amazing 🙂 xx
