My first summary post of the year, and it’s a good one! I used the festive break to catch up on reading so had a strong showing for my January reviews. I feel more engrossed in reading now than I have for a while, so hopefully this continues well into the year.
So, this month I read five brilliant books and all very different, so the variety kept me turning those pages too.

I started the year with the 2024 Booker Prize winner Orbital and really loved it, a totally unique read of 24 hours in the life of astronauts and cosmonauts on the International Space Station that makes you think and conjures up amazing space-scenery.
In contemporary fiction I enjoyed So Thrilled for You and Homesick. The first was a witty, funny and a touch sad tale of a baby shower gone rogue – with amazing insights into how lost and lonely those initial months after having a baby can be.
Famous Last Words is a psychological thriller with a very intriguing premise – what would you do if your seemingly loving – non-criminal – husband took some people hostage, ended up all over the news, then he disappeared? Well ponder on it no more, you might react like lead character Camilla and try and find out just what on earth is really going on. A great read.
And lastly, another Agatha Christie to add to my list, Dumb Witness was another highly enjoyable outing for Poirot.
Looking forward, here are the 2025 books I’m very excited to read. Yes, I may have already read some of them by this point but there are still a few on my TBR.
