Quarantine Anthem – A Decluttered Mind

On more lockdown news, the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) here in the Philippines has been extended until April 30, 2020. Oh, well.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually miss going to the office. This work-from-home arrangement is undeniably convenient and all, but somehow, I long for the sight of my co-workers pretending to be busy at work, the noise of people chit-chatting in the hallways, and the smell of brewed coffee in the office pantry. Oh, and I miss the feeling of my Friday commute! Somehow, ending your week when you’ve worked at home isn’t as satisfying as when you’ve spent it in the office. I guess it’s the lack of something to do and anticipate for that’s making this whole scenario incredibly unsatisfying.

Now I get by most of the time thru music, and all this weekend talk only reminds me of my favorite “weekend song”. You know that song that instantly siphons off your week-long stress at work the moment it starts playing? For me, it’s The National’s Apartment Story.

The drum beat at the beginning is instant therapy for me. As cheesy as it may sound, whenever I listen to it, I feel like the world is a much better place. If my life is a Netflix film, this song would definitely be playing right before the credits. The song’s a perfect driving companion, too.

Listening to its lyrics, I realized that this song is quite apt for the occasion as well.

Stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz

So worry not, all things are well
We’ll be alright, we have our looks and perfume on

Isn’t this our life now? And just like that, my hymn for the weekend is now my track for the great lockdown.

Stay safe, everyone.
