Mom came up with a groovy 4th of July weekend plan. I’m terrified of fireworks and we know that with the three day weekend it would be non stop fireworks for three days. Mom wanted to go to a scent work trial in Illinois but I don’t like to travel. Because I am so scared of fireworks, leaving me with a pet sitter is not an option on such a weekend. Mom decided to travel to Elgin, Illinois with the three of us for the scent work trial. We stayed at the Candlewood Suites in an industrial park where it would be quiet, hopefully.
It turns out Mom was right. The whole weekend we didn’t hear any fireworks. Was it still stressful for me traveling? Yes, but the trip is only about five and a half hours each way and to the trial from our hotel was just five minutes. The last time I was in Illinois was in May of 2019. Nelson, Olivia and I enjoyed the hotel stay and we all slept well without the booming of fireworks.
Nelson was the main reason we went to this trial but Olivia also did a few runs just for fun. The theme of the trial was Woofstock and they set up a “groovy” photo station. Mom took me for lots of little walks during each day since I was not in the trial. It was fun to stop by the photo station to snap a fitting photo from our groovy 4th of July. This idea worked so well, we may travel again next year to avoid the 4th of July.
