Why I Love This Story:
With all the protests on the news right now, I feel like this book is a very needed story.
Eden’s Light by Jessica McKay is a tender story that gives readers permission to explore and discuss the violent images that they see on TV. The text follows Eden, a young girl who struggles to express her fear after watching a violent news story. The only explanation she can express is that she is frightened of the dark. After a discussion with her mom, Eden realizes that no matter what the world is doing, nothing can take away her inner light. Jessica did a beautiful job of explaining this concept in a gentle way that young children can relate to. The illustrations by Jestenia Southerland are done with mellow colors that allow readers to connect to the story. Overall, this is the kind of book that our children need right now!
